Easy Rosewill RNX-N150RT DD-WRT Firmware upgrade! Turn a $20 router into a $100 router!

After looking around for a extremely Cheap DD-WRT router I found the RNX-N150RT It was pretty easy and strait forward to upgrade to DDWRT on this router! DD-WRT comes default with hotspotsystem and various other Hotspot software capability and you could create a large network for a really low price. Here is the RAR file I made with the exact version that I used to upgrade mine with some basic instructions!
Please click an ad so I can afford to experiment more in the future! Thanks!
update! 12/22/12 My router is still working fine! 14 hours since I last rebooted the router and its running cool without an issue! Even under some pretty harsh video streaming to 4 different devices.

Sorry if the download link does not work dropbox sent me an email that said there were too many downloads so it may start working again soon!

  1. I purchased two of these on Black Friday. One as my primary router, the second for a wireless access point. Got them flashed with DD-WRT and working together and don't really have any complaints, but encountered a couple of issues...

    1. The second one flashed the "factory-to-ddwrt.bin" fine, but it wouldn't accept Webflash.bin. Whenever I pressed OK to flash the browser would pause for a few seconds then display a "Cannot Find Server" type page. Tried several 30/30/30 resets and no luck. That said, it seems to work fine without a successful flash of the second bin file.

    2. Certain features of DD-WRT don't work. For example, I couldn't increase the transmit power. Don't know if I did something wrong or if this feature isn't possible.

What about you? Any suggestions appreciated.

  2. Thinking that maybe using ftp instead of web flashing would be a possible option. as for transmitter power Im pretty sure that all the juice it has pretty much. Try installing a antenna connect on it and a decent high db antenna. Still a good cheap platform to use for dd-wrt! Next Project im putting open-wrt on a BenQS6 and using it for a media server.

  3. Just curious, when you look under status on your dd-wrt page, wireless, does it say 17dBm TX power? Even though under settings, wireless, you set it to 20 dBm? And the tech spec for the router says it can do 20 dBm. I'm not sure how to overcome this or if it is possible?

  4. I think 17db may be the limitation for this model. but 17db is 50mw and combined with the built in antenna which is maybe 3db gain if we are lucky would produce about 60mw erp. So I think I would worry about the antenna more! if you put a 13db patch antenna on the router it would make about .5 watt output as compared to the stock antenna. It will produce some amazing increases in range without trying to manipulate the meager power output of the router. My next project will be a simple patch antenna sitting on top of the router and I will place bets that I get the range I want with about $10 in materials. Thanks for the post Gordo.

  5. An md5 check suggests that the source of the binaries in your rar are ftp://dd-wrt.com/others/eko/BrainSlayer-V24-preSP2/2012/10-12-12-r20119-testing/rosewill-rnx-n150rt/

I'm just adding that here for the record. I'm sure there are others asking the question, "What versions have people had success with?"

  7. Just an update. My router has been running strong and has no issues at all. current Up time since I last rebooted manually is 5 days, 10:16. I'm decently impressed by the performance of such a affordable device!
